
From 2020 to 2022, the Highland Institute hosted one of India’s most comprehensive academic writing training programmes, supported by the British Academy and led by a team of international scholars. The workshops focused on developing the research and publishing capacities of early-career scholars in India, with sessions on peer review, research methods, writing for journals, public engagement, and academic networking.The final in-person workshop was held 12–14 December 2022 in Kohima, and brought together 27 participants for three days of paper presentations, one-to-one mentorship, and thematic training. Organised by Dr Hephzibah Israel (University of Edinburgh), Dr John Thomas (IIT Guwahati), Dr John Zavos (University of Manchester), and Dr Michael Heneise (Highland Institute), the workshop featured scholars from across the humanities and social sciences and culminated in a community dinner hosted by the Institute.Workshop Videos (curated by the University of Edinburgh):

This workshop series played a critical role in shaping the academic journeys of a new generation of scholars and continues to inform our own training and mentoring practices through the PGCertR programme.
